MONTSERRAT CABALLE fell five feet to the ground when a row of seats collapsed yesterday in the amphitheater of Merida, Spain. Miss Caballe, whose opulent voice and ample presence are much sought after, was attending a performance conducted by MSTISLAV ROSTROPOVICH.

On Saturday, she had sung at the Merida Festival's opening with JOSE CARRERAS. The two Spanish singers were seated in a special V.I.P. section of the audience. Despite the fall, Miss Caballe walked away, The Associated Press reported, with minor injuries to her wrist and leg. Mr. Carreras, who was sitting nearby, somehow avoided the fall.
